Synack builds a Penetration Testing as a Service (PTaaS) platform that pairs an agentic AI pentesting agent with the Synack Red Team, a vetted community of more than 1,500 freelance security researchers that accepts fewer than 10% of applicants. Established in 2013 by former National Security Agency operators Jay Kaplan and Mark Kuhr, the company sells to enterprises in financial services, technology, and retail as well as to U.S. federal and defense agencies. Synack has enabled nearly 10 million hours of security testing to date and remains privately held, with funding from Kleiner Perkins, GV, Microsoft Ventures, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, C5 Capital, and B Capital Group.
