Gray Swan AI builds adversarial AI red-teaming and runtime protection software for enterprises deploying large language model applications and AI agents, and for the frontier labs building them. Spun out of Carnegie Mellon University's AI safety research, its platform pairs Shade, an autonomous red-teaming agent, with Cygnal, an inline runtime guardrail, and it operates the Arena crowdsourced network of more than 15,000 AI red teamers. Founded by Carnegie Mellon researchers including Matt Fredrikson and Zico Kolter, the company raised a $40 million Series A in May 2026 co-led by Wing Venture Capital and Madrona.
